"There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation". First, at present, I do not believe that sufficient evidence exists to credibly claim that the president has obstructed justice. He lashed out at a top Justice Department official overseeing the inquiry, reflecting his mounting frustration with the unrelenting controversy that has consumed his early presidency.

Others have pointed to news that Mueller interviewed with Trump for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director post after Comey's firing. "Witch Hunt", the president said on Twitter.

"[Trump] fired the former FBI Director, he's looking at firing the special counsel, he's now attacking Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and he's called the press the enemy of the people", Lieu continued.

Rosenstein on Thursday night issued an unusual and puzzling public warning about stories attributed to anonymous sources.

The poll also found that there is a growing level of concern regarding the contact that Trump's affiliates had with Russian officials over the course of a year ago.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired", Feinstein said.

Feinstein added, "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office". They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

"Oh, I was gonna fire regardless of recommendation", President Donald Trump said. Still, the snowballing investigation has deeply angered Trump, who denies he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation.

Gingrich says presidents can't obstruct justice - but accused Bill
On December 19 at 1:56PM, Gingrich voted to impeach President Clinton for obstruction of justice. Trump also nominated Gingrich's wife, Callista, to be the ambassador to the Vatican.

If Rosenstein recuses himself from oversight of the special counsel investigation, that role would fall to the Justice Department's No. 3 official, newly confirmed Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand. "The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations".

The department would not comment on the record on whether Trump, who has repeatedly complained about leaks on the case, requested the statement. "As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will", Justice Department spokesman Ian Prior said in a statement.

Rosenstein took over the investigation into the alleged Russian interference after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself in March.

Rosenstein could eventually be questioned by Mueller about his memo on Comey and what motivated Trump to ask him to write it.

And other members of the Trump transition are being directed to preserve records pertinent to the Russian Federation probe, including foreign travel and records related to former Trump campaign associates, specifically National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Foreign Policy Adviser Carter Page, Former Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, and his deputy, Rick Gates. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday. Reporters who shouted questions for clarification after Trump stepped off Marine One on his return to the White House on Friday from a Miami trip got no answers.

Vice President Mike Pence has also hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.

If Trump is forced to go, Pence will need to be free from further taint. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff.

Representative Adam Schiff of California, the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, warned that Trump would be overstepping his authority by taking such action.
