The "president can not obstruct justice", said Gingrich. "What you have lived through for 2 1/2 years is the most systematic, deliberate obstruction of justice, coverup and effort to avoid the truth we have ever seen in American history, and the time has come to say to the president, 'Quit undermining the law in the United States".

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Friday (above) that Donald Trump was innocent of obstruction of justice because he is president - even though Gingrich led the charge in impeaching former President Bill Clinton in 1998. On December 19 at 1:56PM, Gingrich voted to impeach President Clinton for obstruction of justice.

The Senate in 1999 voted to acquit the president.

He pushed back on the idea that we should forget about left versus right in this moment of grief.

"You have to look at this and recognize, they're going to get somebody", Gingrich told Hannity.

ABC News looks at the change and whether anything will change in the USA military posture in Iraq , Syria and Afghanistan. As a candidate, Trump deplored the waste of America's wars and suggested he would try to end them.

"If he fires Mueller, I will tell you, we are right on the brink of a constitutional crisis", the IL senator said.

Trump also nominated Gingrich's wife, Callista, to be the ambassador to the Vatican.

Gingrich advised Trump against terminating special counsel Robert Mueller, though attacked the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief for hiring "bad people" to handle the Russian Federation probe. While he repeatedly said it wasn't his place to say whether Trump's actions amounted to an obstruction of justice - an impeachable offense - he said he's "sure" that Mueller would investigate if they did. "This is an Indian hunting party", Gingrich said.

'Media should now calm down'.
