An Afghan soldier opened fire on American soldiers on Saturday, injuring at least seven, the USA military said. The attack Saturday at Camp Shaheen left seven American soldiers wounded, according to officials with the NATO-led mission in the country.

An Afghan commando shot dead three USA soldiers last Saturday in eastern Nangarhar province.

Initially conflicting reports emerged about the number of casualties in the attack, with Afghan officials telling Reuters that four U.S. troops had been killed; that number has since been revised.

NATO-led Resolute Support said US soldiers were wounded in the incident at Camp Shaheen in Mazar-e-Sharif at 2 p.m.

Local residents say they have seen military helicopters hovering over the area.

Abdul Qahar Araam, spokesman for the 209 Army corps, said soldiers returned fired killing the attacker. A fourth USA solider was wounded in that attack. It comes exactly one week after an Afghan soldier allegedly opened fire on USA troops, killing three and wounding one.

The statement read that the incident was under investigation and more details would be provided when available.

On Saturday, Mujahid praised the camp Shaheen attack in a statement sent to the media, but did not claim Taliban responsibility.

Analysts say such attacks are expected to increase this year as USA troops engage with the Afghan military to double the size of its special forces, considered to be effective in the fight against insurgents. "We only have reports of injured foreign troops", said Muhammad Radmanish, the ministry's spokesman.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump announced that he would delegate near-total authority to the Pentagon to determine troop levels in the country.
