Mueller meets with Senate Russia investigators

Last week, former FBI Director James Comey testified that Donald Trump had not been under investigation in the probe into connections between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, leading Trump and other Republicans to claim that Trump had been exonerated and to call for an end to the Russian Federation investigation - but a new report in the Washington Post published on Wednesday afternoon appears to turn that narrative on its head.

Near wall-to-wall coverage of yesterday's congressional shooting was broken by a bombshell report from the Washington Post which revealed that Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his investigators were looking into whether Trump was guilty of obstruction of justice in the Russian Federation probe. Last week, former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.

President Trump on Thursday criticized reports that he is now under investigation for obstruction of justice in connection with the firing of FBI Director James Comey, denouncing it as another "witch hunt" that is unfairly targeting him.

The Washington Post reported late Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is seeking interviews with three Trump administration officials who weren't involved in Trump's campaign.

The meeting comes a day after politicians questioned Justice Department officials about the probe and Mr Mueller's independence, and after a friend of Mr Trump said the White House was considering firing Mr Mueller.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Mr Trump's personal lawyer, responded to the Washington Post's report, saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal". As a general matter, I think the answer is no.

For months, President Trump has been obsessed - publicly and privately - with clearing his name in relation to the ongoing investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and potential collusion with members of his campaign. NPR reported last week that Mueller had been on the White House shortlist to succeed Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director before the Justice Department named him as special counsel.

Panama switches diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China
A Chinese vessel was the first to pass through the Panama Canal after a major expansion project was completed last June. Panama's termination of bilateral relations with Taiwan means there are only 20 countries that recognise Taiwan.

Consider that paragraph. And consider we are less than 150 days into Trump's presidency and this - an investigation by a special counsel who also happens to be the former FBI director - is where he finds himself.

Asked what he would do if Trump ordered him to fire Mueller, Rosenstein said, "I'm not going to follow any order unless I believe they are lawful and appropriate orders".

Trump told Holt that the entire investigation "should have been over with a long time ago".

"I think he's weighing that option, " Ruddy said in an interview with the PBS NewsHour.

Firing Mueller wouldn't even accomplish anything, according to Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters aboard Air Force One that "while the president has the right to" fire Robert Mueller, "he has no intention to do so".

The source added that Mueller also wants to talk to Richard Ledgett, the former top civilian an the NSA, who wrote a memo documenting Rogers' conversation with Trump.
