When Attorney General Jeff Sessions testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday, it will be in a hearing that's open to the public.

A Justice Department spokeswoman said Sessions requested the open setting because "he believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him". According to sources familiar with the closed briefing, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey said Sessions may have met with Kislyak a third time.

A number of members are concerned Sessions may be attempting to avoid testifying in public by scrapping his previously scheduled Senate and House Appropriations appearances this week, where he was expected to be grilled on issues related to the federal investigation into Russia's efforts to influence the U.S. election, several sources say. Sen.

Trump's pledge to offer sworn testimony to Mueller came in a press conference the day after Comey's testimony before the Senate intelligence committee.

Fellow Republicans, meanwhile, pressed Trump to come clean about whether he has tapes of private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey and provide them to Congress if he does - or possibly face a subpoena.

"I opposed Sessions for being Attorney General of the United States".

Comey accused the Republican president of trying to get him to drop the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and fired him to undermine the Russian Federation probe.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's fraught history with now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions is no secret.

Iran qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Iran, managed by former Real Madrid and Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz since 2011, tops Group A of Asian qualifying. It is the first time Iran has qualified for consecutive World Cups, and will be its fifth appearance in total.

That remark came after revelations emerged that Sessions had met with Russia's ambassador to the USA last year, despite testifying under oath during a confirmation hearing that he "did not have communications with the Russians".

An attorney and broadcaster with longtime ties to a Christian legal organization has joined President Donald Trump's outside legal team to deal with the Russian Federation probes.

"Lordy, I hope there are tapes", Comey had said on Thursday. He said he would send in his place Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general.

"You need to testify before both in public", Mr. Leahy said in a tweet. Dianne Feinstein of California has said there should be further investigation. DOJ says the attorney general reminded Comey about the DOJ policy.

Playing the role of an honorable statesman preserving the "wellspring of democracy", Schumer appeared on CBS's "Face the Nation", and assured host John Dickerson that Democrats would respond in a "dignified" manner to the occasion, should it happen - literally licking his lips in the process.

Trump's tendency to bring up the Russian Federation investigation, whether by insulting Comey or hinting at the existence of tapes, has created a headache for Republicans who want to focus on the party's priorities such as healthcare and tax reform.

Trump, who serves as special counselor to the president, pointed to the "noise" and "intensity" of the coverage.
