Iran arrests 7 suspects for supporting Tehran attacks

The Islamic State militant group (ISIS) threatened to attack Saudi Arabia after it claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks in Tehran that left 17 people dead, according to a new video released on Friday.

An earlier statement from Iran's ministry of intelligence had said that they arrested 41 ISIS members within the three Kurdish provinces of Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Azerbaijan Gharbi, and also in Tehran.

Since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January, the yawning gap between Tehran and Washington has grown even wider with Trump's latest efforts to isolate Iran in the region, while bolstering cooperation with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries.

Iranian authorities said five of the attackers were Iranian nationals recruited by IS, while Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards Corps blamed the assault on regional rival Saudi Arabia and has threatened revenge.

Suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in Tehran on Wednesday.

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the twin terrorist attacks that hit Tehran Wednesday would not stop the nation from moving forward "united and with a firm determination". Find us on Facebook too!

The country's supreme leader said the attacks will add to the hatred Iranians harbor toward the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The Intelligence Ministry also confirmed that five of the men involved in the attacks had previously fought for the Islamic State group. The group says that the ruling monarchy uses Islam to hold on to its power and is not the true Islamic state it claims to be.

At the end of the video, he sent a message to the Saudi government. Sunni Saudi Arabia denied any involvement in the attacks.

The Revolutionary Guard Corps, meanwhile, has accused Saudi Arabia and the US of standing behind Wednesday's deadly attacks.

During the funeral, parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called the US the "international" version of the Islamic State and said Washington had exchanged democracy for money, a reference to a recent arms deal between the USA and Saudi Arabia.

Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi has said Iran identified several jihadists, where they meet and where they hide.
