Coroner identifies body in river as ex-Bills WR James Hardy

On Wednesday, June 7th the body of former Buffalo Bill's wide receiver, James Hardy III, was found in a log jam in the Indiana River. the coroner positively identified Hardy on Thursday. An Indiana water filtration worker found Hardy's body in the Maumee River.

Officer Mike Joyner, of the Fort Wayne police department, said Hardy's mom reported him missing on May 30.

Hardy remains at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, which is still attempting to determine a cause and manner of death. Hep was like a father figure to James, and his passing was something that was hard for Hardy to accept.

Hardy, who played in the National Football League for two seasons in 2008-2009 was spotted by a Fort Wayne Filtration Plant employee, who was on his regular rounds of the area.

The 6-foot-6 Hardy also appeared in 23 games for Indiana's basketball team during the 2004-05 season.

By the time he left IN after three seasons, Hardy had set the Hoosiers records for receptions (186), receiving yards (2,690), and touchdown receptions (36). Hardy caught nine passes and had two touchdowns during his rookie season for the Bills. Hardy then declared himself available for the 2008 NFL Draft in January 2008 saying "I have reached the pinnacle of my college football career".

More details surrounding Hardy's death were not immediately available.

The Bills released a statement in the wake of his passing.

He was arrested in Los Angeles for resisting arrest in 2014 but a judge later ruled him not mentally competent to stand trial. Hardy signed with the Baltimore Ravens in early 2011 before being released after training camp that fall.

The Bills did send out a message on Twitter to offer their condolences to the entire Hardy family regarding their loss.
