Besieged White House denies, defends as new bombshells hit

Former President Richard Nixon was also charged with the first three articles of impeachment for obstruction of justice in 1974 after he refused to release White House tape recordings containing important information regarding the Watergate scandal.

The White House issued a furious denial near the end of a tumultuous day.

Trump has seen few Republican lawmakers rush to his defense and many are publicly demanding answers from the executive branch.

Over the past week that began with the sacking of the now-former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey, Trump has hurtled from one scandal to other, each more egregious than the other. A day before Comey's meeting with Trump, Flynn had been ousted for what the White House said were misleading accounts of his conversations with Russia's USA ambassador.

Commenting on the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, Trump reportedly told Comey that Flynn was a "good guy" who did nothing wrong.

McMaster also indicated that Trump could not have revealed sensitive sources or methods.

Only the dumb, numb and naive can possibly believe Comey was sacked for Trump's stated reasons.

Top White House officials learned of the looming New York Times story about a memo Comey wrote memorializing Trump's request two hours before it went online. After the news broke of the Comey memo, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., stood in the chamber and said, "I say to all of my colleagues in the Senate - history is watching".

Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Tuesday that former FBI Director James Comey's memo on his February conversation with President Donald Trump "has to be seen" because "tone is everything".

Ross Douthat, a conservative columnist for the New York Times, wrote that while Trump may not be guilty of the "high crimes and misdemeanors" necessary for impeachment, he had shown himself incapable of governing the country.

Will Senate Republicans knuckle under and confirm, as Comey's replacement, a Trump toady tasked with squashing the Russian Federation investigation or heed the landslide majority of Americans - 65 percent, in a national poll two months ago - who want a nonpartisan special prosecutor?

The New York Times reports Trump asked Comey to end the investigation into General Flynn during an Oval Office meeting in February.

Although Arsenal fans will no doubt point to yet another season without a trophy! Mourinho has already lifted the League Cup. With his eyes still moist from Sunday's emotional farewell to the Lane , Kane said: "We play a different style to West Ham.

The Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, Jason Chaffetz, said a letter had been drafted giving the Justice Department until May 24 to hand over copies of any communications between Mr Comey and Mr Trump.

Schumer said in a brief, somber floor speech Tuesday that he was "shaken" by the report that Trump asked Comey "to shut down an active investigation into a close political associate".

And about Clinton's relationship with Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state employee, the proceedings stated: "During the Jones case, the President obstructed justice and had an understanding with Ms. Lewinsky to jointly hide the truth about their relationship by concealing gifts subpoenaed by Ms. Jones's attorneys".

Yes, the president said, he had given information to the Russians.

The White House vigorously denied it all. Earlier officials staunchly defended Mr Trump's disclosure of classified information to senior Russian officials.

In a separate letter, the Democrat members on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees called for a joint investigation and a public hearing of James Comey.

Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan backed Chaffetz. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn will meet with the moderate Tuesday Group.

"I guess that's the task no matter who's in the White House and who's in Congress", he said.

"What he says on the phone to his friends, we don't know", one of the White House officials said. I guess that's why we won. But John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the Trump-Russia reports were "deeply disturbing" and could impede allies' willingness to share intelligence with the U.S.

Several right-wing Republicans from the neo-conservative wing of the party joined Democrats in calling for action to remove Trump from the presidency.

Testifying before Congress is familiar to Comey, a former Justice Department official in the George W. Bush administration.
