The offshore wind projects represent a combined capacity of 368 MW and could yield $1.8 billion in in-state spending, according to a press release, while bringing almost 9,700 indirect and direct jobs. That term starts in January 2021 for US Wind and in 2023 for Skipjack.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD -Avangrid Renewables and Vineyard Wind have announced that they have formed a strategic partnership to jointly develop a large scale wind energy project off the coast of MA.

The financing package for the project is thought to be the largest for an offshore wind farm, amounting to a total investment of €2.8bn (US$3bn) for the construction alone. Additionally, the Netherlands' new wind farm also has two offshore high-voltage substations connected to the land station in Eemshaven by a 110-kilometer export cable.

In turn, Deepwater Wind has proposed to install 15 turbines about 17-21 miles offshore as part of its Skipjack project. "88192-Case-No. -9431-Offshore-Wind.pdf">order included more than two dozen conditions, including requirements that the developers create nearly 5,000 direct jobs during the development, construction and operating phases of the projects. The companies must use port facilities in the greater Baltimore region and Ocean City for construction and operations and maintenance (O&M) activities, and invest at least a combined Dollars 76 million in a local steel fabrication plant, while also financing not less than USD 39.6 million to support port upgrades at the Tradepoint Atlantic. "Each developer also must take advantage of the best commercially available technology to lessen views of the wind turbines by beach-goers and residents, both during the day and at night", Commissioner Anthony O'Donnell said.

Removal of 2nd Confederate statue in New Orleans to begin
The huge bronze image of Beauregard on horseback sits in the center of a traffic circle at the entrance to New Orleans City Park. Richard Marksbury, a New Orleans resident and monument supporter, said he may go to an appeal court to block removal.

"As we review the details of the commission's order, we thank the Public Service Commission for the trust that they have placed in Deepwater Wind", CEO Jeff Grybowski said in a statement.

The Chesapeake Climate Action Network estimates that the reduction is equal to taking 3,600 cars off the road each year.

The project is expected to create a total of 75-100 maintenance and administrative jobs in Eemshaven, a seaport in the municipality of Groningen.

The two facilities are expected to reduce carbon emissions by a minimum of 19,000t each year for 20 years, helping Maryland reach its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. Maryland's renewable portfolio standard requires production of 25% of electricity from renewables by 2020.
