Inside, Farooq Abdullah appealed to the President of India to impose Governor's rule in the state, following the civilian killings and violence in different parts of the Valley.

Counting for Srinagar Lok Sabha bypoll, which recorded a voter turnout of 7.13%, began at 8 am.

Abdullah beat his PDP rival Nazir Ahmad Khan by over 10,000 votes.

Alarmed by the unprecedented violence, the Election Commission chose to defer the south Kashmir Anantnag Parliamentary seat by-poll to May 25.

Nine candidates were in the fray, but the main battle was between Farooq and Nazir Ahmad Khan.

He said that consumers may not be aware of how much they benefit from the federal payments unless they are revoked. But the most immediate issue to be addressed is funding subsidies for the lowest-income enrollees.

Abdullah, 79, had lost the seat to PDP's Tariq Hameed Karra in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Six percent people have voted.

The polling for the seat was held on April 9 amid large- scale violence that left eight persons dead and several dozen others injured.

"All of a sudden, we came to know of the deferment of polls for Anantnag, and its rescheduling for May 25, without seeking any prior views and consultations with the opposition candidates", he said. Locals said a group of boys tried to attack a polling station, but the security forces opened fire resulting in the two casualties. Farooq Abdullah, who was declared the victor after securing less than 4% of the votes polled (Only 7.13% of the votes were cast in any case), remained unfazed.

While talking to reporters he said, "I am thankful to Allah".

Responding to a question on the NC stand on Article 370, Abdullah said our stand has always been that the Article has to be restored to 1953 level. "We have seen polls before when hardly any percentage was there", he said. Subsequently, re-polling was ordered at 38 polling stains on April 13 that saw only 2 % voter (702 out pf total 35,169 voters) coming out to exercise their franchise.
