Snap launches search function, opening a door to new advertising possibilities

When using a search feature, Stories will open another window into the Snapchat content.

To be clear, no ads are now set to run on the Stories collections appearing in the new Search results, but it's an interesting opportunity for the company in the future.

The stories search feature functions on tech which utilizes machine learning to decipher what actually is a story, posted through networks The Story feature and then to reorganize it through the keyboard.

The company said it has been developing Stories search with the help of machine learning, which is a branch of artificial intelligence, using computers to sort through text and photos to help categorize the content. "You can search over one million unique Stories on Snapchat".

"Now there is a story for everything, well at least a story for more than a million places, events or topics, like "puppies", "New York City", or your local bar".

'Umbrella' protesters charged one day after new Hong Kong leader selected
Hundreds of Lam's supporters waved Chinese flags and cheered inside and outside the venue after her win. Currently, Hong Kong's property owners are charged 5% of the annual rental value of a property.

Below is a YouTube video explaining how it works. Posts are only searchable when users make them public by submitting them to "Our Story", an option users get when deciding who gets to see their photos and videos.

Don't be surprised if you check your Snapchat and don't find search today.

Last year, Snapchat launched a redesigned search page that made the platform a little more accessible, because it had been hard to find new accounts and content.

So far, the new searches have been organic but, eventually, Snapchat would have to give into publishers and creators as a means to garner financial support to develop yet more distribution reach. The competition for Snapchat Stories has now become intense with Facebook rolling out the exact same feature for its core app, soon after it launched Stories for WhatsApp and Instagram.

The Snapchat story search feature is rolling out to a few United States cities today and soon follows for the rest of the world.
