Pacers waive Rodney Stuckey, reportedly looking to bring back Lance Stephenson

They haven't put together consecutive wins since early February and are set to face teams in the playoff hunt in six of their final eight regular season contests, including a three-game stretch next week during which they'll take on 2016 conference finalists Cleveland and Toronto in consecutive games.

That injury probably sealed the decision, but the Pacers were always likely to consider waiving Stuckey before April 10.

Free agent swingman Lance Stephenson has reached an agreement with the team on a three-year, $12 million deal, league sources informed ESPN. "He was a positive influence not only to our team but also in the community". In three seasons with IN, he averaged 10.1 points and 2.6 assists.

The Pacers' front office expressed contrition about releasing Stuckey at this point in the season, sources said, and believes both sides benefited from his almost three seasons in Indiana.

Stephenson was a deft ball-handler and capable playmaker for the dominant Pacers teams between 2012 and 2014.

Stuckey has averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds in his career with Detroit and Indiana.

He spent four seasons with the Pacers after he was drafted by the team in 2010.

The Indiana Pacers will have to make their postseason push without several contributors. Lance then went on to spend time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans before most recently signing two 10-day contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A 10-year National Basketball Association veteran, Stuckey resurrected his career after joining the Pacers in 2014 on a veteran minimum deal.
