Apple iPad Sales Figures an Amazing Feat Apple iPad Jailbreaks and Reviews.  The Apple iPad was recently launched in the US, and it was met with a lot of excitement and anticipation. Initial expectations pointed out a possible 200-300K units sold, but the actual figures are more in line with 600-700K units.  Of course, some of these orders were pre-orders placed before the April 3rd availability in stores.

The jailbreak is a popular term used to describe when someone takes a device and bypasses security features worked into the product.  Apple has some security features that prohibit people from downloading software that isn’t authorized by Apple.

Jailbreaking your unit isn’t illegal – but it will void your warranty.  For some, it’s worth it.  For others – check out the 150,000 plus apps available in the Apple App store.

The cost of the iPad ranges from $499-$829 and comes in either a Wi-Fi only model or Wi-Fi 3g.  There are also memory packages coming in at 16-64 GB.  Click here for a guide on choosing the right iPad for you.

The iPad has a 1 GHz processor, making it lightning fast.  It doesn’t have a USB drive and doesn’t support Adobe Flash and doesn’t allow for multitasking – but many don’t seem to mind.  For light computing and internet connectivity, the iPad is a great tool.

Some review the iPad stating that it’s nothing but a glorified large iPod Touch.  Many beg to differ – one reviewer from the Wall Street Journal indicated that he could do about 80% of what he does on his laptop on his iPad.

It’s a great alternative to a netbook, and it’s definitely the start of the future of laptops.  We can only imagine that one day, all notebook PC’s will feature tablet features.
