Yahoo Publisher Network Beta Closed – Chitika Welcomes Small Publishers
April 1st, 2010
Yahoo Publisher Network Beta Closed – Chitika Welcomes Small Publishers. Once the largest Web company, Yahoo has been selling off and shutting down arms of their services over the past few years. HotJobs was sold to Monster, and the GeoCities personal Web site hosting service was closed down. The latest casualty of restructuring within the company is the Yahoo Publisher Network Beta.
The Beta program has been around for a while, and services pay per click advertisement to small Web sites such as blogs. The company maintains that their resources would be better used elsewhere.
The ad service that is getting shut down shouldn’t be confused with Yahoo’s ad services to larger Web sites.
What is a small publisher to do if he or she needs ads served on their network? Yahoo has recommended Chitika as an alternative to their program. A publisher can get ahead of the game and apply to the Chitika ad network by clicking here.
Futhermore, publishers can also participate in Google Adsense, a pay-per-click program. Chitika and Google can be used on the same site, as long as the Terms of Service for both Google and Chitika are followed. This gives publishers more than one stream of revenue.
Chitika also offers collapseable ads – which means that your ads can be hidden from your regular audience and shown to your search engine traffic.
Google Adsense shouldn’t be overlooked. Yahoo Publishers Network Beta program users previously couldn’t use Adsense with YPN.
What do you think about the news? Is it a good or a bad thing for small publishers?
