March 26th, 2010

2010 Health Care Reform Bill Facts and New Bill Summary, Pros and Cons. The reform bill that passed is rumored to cost the American people a whopping 1 trillion dollars. On the other hand, it is supposed to cut the deficit by billions, by raising taxes and cuts in Medicare programs.

Many of us are not sure how the bill is going to work. The only thing that is certain is that there is a big controversy surrounding the reform and the fight has only just begun. Again, the bill went through Congress yesterday after several proposed amendments and was once again passed.

The pros and cons of the bill are stacking up. The biggest pro is access to healthcare for millions of uninsured Americans. The biggest cons are the uncertainty surrounding the bill, the cost, and questions about if the bill infringes on constitutional rights.

Furthermore, health care insurance companies cannot turn away anyone with a pre-existing condition. Insurance companies will be reigned in, and Medicare spending will become more efficient.

On the other hand, this bill will be expensive and requires Americans to purchase insurance.  If they don’t purchase insurance, they will have to pay a fine.  How are many Americans going to pay for insurance, or the fine, if they can’t even pay their mortgage? These are questions many hopes the administration will have the answers to.

The bill is 2,300 pages plus long – and full of twists and turns.  If you need to read a summary of the changes and how they could affect you, click here.
