John Mayer “Black Women” Comment: African-American Women Respond
February 11th, 2010
John Mayer “Black Women” comment: African-American women are responding to the singer’s recent announcement that a certain part of his body is racist. While the comment may have not been intended to insult practically every beautiful sister out there, it pretty much has.
Some African American and other ethnic women sometimes feel the pressure from what society claims is beautiful. Trim women with blonde hair, blue eyes, and tan skin typically are the epitome of beauty.
Many times, society forgets that the curves of a black woman, her creamy skin, and strong facial features are just as beautiful – if not moreso – than their blond hair blue eyed counterparts.
The Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter was too busy saying what he needed to say to realize that.
With all the commotion and controversy surrounding John Mayer’s “black women” comment, we asked a few beautiful African-American women what they thought about the comments. Given the sensitivity of the situation, all respondents will be kept anonymous.
One responded that he doesn’t know what he’s missing out on. She really doesn’t care that he doesn’t find black women attractive. There are plenty of fish in the sea, and she’s not at all upset by his “small mindedness.”
Another responded that she was hurt. She has been a fan of the singer for years, and while she can respect that he doesn’t want to date outside his race, she doesn’t think the way he commented on the issue was very professional. She is going to sell all of her John Mayer stuff on eBay.
A third thinks that the singer was taken aback by the statement. She figures that he’s scared of what’s different. She thinks it’s a shame that he made himself out to sound so cruel when it comes to race.
