Snooki’s Ball Drop Moved to Jersey

December 30th, 2010

MTV’s Jersey Shore’s character Snooki has had quite the year.  MTV wanted to capitalize on her success by having a ball drop on Times Square on New Years Eve.  Now, this isn’t the official ball drop that we all have remembered as a kid, but rather a coincidental ball drop that takes place at the same time, only on the roof of the MTV studios atop of their Times Square location.

The Snooki ball drop would involve the reality star climbing in to a ball, which would be dropped to signify the new year.  Jersey Shore’s creator has been quoted as calling Snooki a “party in a box” and that there is no perfect way to ring in the New Year quite like the Snooki ball drop.

Everyone was freaking out when news broke that the anticipated event wouldn’t be taking place. Not to worry! It will take place, but just at the original Jersey Shore filming location.

[Side note - am I the only one that thinks that Snooki's skin color looks like Anne Hathaway in "Bride Wars" after Kate Hudson's character hijacked the fake bake booth?]

MTV’s New Year’s Eve special will be aired separate of all the other network specials. It will include performances by Flo Rida, and appearances by the Jersey Shore crew.

However, the main event will switch cameras to New Jersey, where we will see the first ever Snooki Ball drop.  Can’t help but wonder how long that tradition will last.
