Amazing Lunar Eclipse December 2010 Expected

December 18th, 2010

An amazing lunar eclipse December 21 2010 is expected.  This means that a lunar eclipse will transpire coming up on this coming Tuesday – giving us plenty of time to get ready for an amazing event the week of Christmas. According to NASA,

“The eclipse begins on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21st, at 1:33 am EST (Monday, Dec. 20th, at 10:33 pm PST). At that time, Earth’s shadow will appear as a dark-red bite at the edge of the lunar disk. It takes about an hour for the “bite” to expand and swallow the entire Moon. Totality commences at 02:41 am EST (11:41 pm PST) and lasts for 72 minutes.”

The last time there was a lunar eclipse was in 2008, and it won’t happen again until 2014…so this is definitely something you want to consider having a look at this Tuesday.

It’s also quite odd that the event takes place during the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year  and the first day of winter – six months after the summer solstice (which is the longest day of the year, and the first day of summer).  I can’t help but wonder if there is some cosmic meaning to this, and am wondering myself if the day will bring any special events to the world.

Stay tuned for more info, and we will be sure to post pictures of the lunar eclipse on December 21, 2010 when we view it for ourselves.
