Kim Kardashian’s Credit Card Not Such A Great Financial Tool
November 30th, 2010
Kim Kardashian is known for her ultimate sense of fashion, and perhaps her booty – but definitely not her financial sense. Now, I love Kim just like any other entertainment junkie but when I heard of the “Kardashian Kredit Kard”, I rolled my eyes.
Then, I thought about it. She’s peddled diet pills, fast food, cupcakes, jewelry, clothing, and perfume – so why wouldn’t she endorse a credit card?
(Side note – am I alone in thinking that it’s weird that Kim peddles cupcakes and fast food (Carl’s, Jr) AND Quick Trim diet pills? Is the cupcakes and fast food some sort of ‘job security’?)
Personally, if I were Kim I would fire whoever nudged me to endorse the credit card, especially when Kim said she wanted her card to teach kids how to be ‘responsible’ with money. (Unless, of course it was Kris Jenner…then I’d give her a pass, but only because she’s ‘mom’)
There’s nothing ‘responsible’ about a credit card that comes with an annual fee – nothing at all. In addition, there’s nothing ‘responsible’ about using a credit card…especially one that has a photo of one of the biggest shoppers in all history.
I’m not alone in thinking that the Kardashian Kredit Kard is a bad thing. One source told American Banker that “This card doesn’t seem to make sense at all, it appears to be targeted at teenagers, yet with ridiculous fees. If there is such a thing as a luxury prepaid market, then it’s not going to be the teens.”
Fees range from activation in the amount of $59.95 to $99.95 – and various steep fees which include a $6 fee to close out the card and have the balance mailed to you.
**UPDATE** Kim and her sisters have shut down the credit card deal, after they realized that some of the fees “could violate” various laws, according to Seattle PI
