South Korea Warns of ‘Dear Price’ Of Continued North Korea Attacks
November 29th, 2010
South Korea has warned North Korea about the ‘dear price’ they will pay if attacks continue. This comes as tensions rise in the region, as South Korea and the United States have proceeded with war games uncomfortably close to the North Korean border, and against warnings from both North Korea and China.
North Korea has been an obstinate force in the Asian region, pursuing a nuclear agenda against the wishes of the UN and even though they told the US during the Clinton Administration that they would not do so in return for food, oil, and money.
The tensions in the Korean peninsula have increased amid a change in power.
According to CNN, the president of South Korea said “If the North commits any additional provocations against the South, we will make sure that it pays a dear price without fail. We are aware of the historic lesson that a disgraceful peace achieved through intimidation only brings about greater harm in the end.” in a nationally televised address.
The entire situation in the region is stressful, not only for those situated on the peninsula but also the United States, China, and Japan. Everyone is holding their breath, hoping that the North Korean standoff won’t lead to World War III.
On the other side of the world, in Iran the nuclear program has suffered yet another attack – this time when experts affiliated with the program were killed by bombs. The program also previously was targeted by the Stuxnet virus.
With all the tensions mounting in the world, it will be interesting to see what transpires. Hopefully there are peaceful negotiations that can take place. Unfortunately, history has suggested that perhaps that may not be possible. However, many are hoping that the least amount of human casualties both in the military and civilian aspects will be avoided.
