Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito had a memorable fight this past weekend.  In what has become possibly the career ending bout for Margarito, Manny Pacquiao once again showed class and stayed in the fight, but didn’t do as much to his opponent as he could have.  Pacquiao won, and Margarito will have to have his face surgically repaired.

The pre-fight was FULL of drama. Roach suspected that Margarito took ephedra, which is prohibited. He demanded a pre-fight blood test from both fighters, and the commission refused. They settled on a urine test at the end of the fight, but by then, the ephedra will have worked out of the system. Margarito’s people questioned Pacquiao’s hand wraps. Oh, the drama.

The fight did go on, though.

Manny Pacquiao won rounds 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11, and 12. Margarito won rounds 6 and 8. Sports Illustrated has a round by round recap which was written live as the event unfolded.

Of course, Manny Pacquiao won – not too many people are surprised. However Margarito did put up a decent fight and perhaps this is going to open the door to him to head back to the world of Boxing in the US after his scandal broke last year.

Now, the only thing missing for Manny Pacquiao is the elusive battle against Mayweather.  If he can figure out a way to come to an agreement with Mayweather, then the two could have an epic battle against each other – presumably in the very Dallas stadium where this fight took place.

Perhaps Pacquiao is a good charm, too.  The Dallas Cowboys were able to beat the New York Giants yesterday after Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips last week – previously the Cowboys were 1-7.
