[VIDEO] Four Loko Banned, As “Blackout In A Can” Causes Issues

October 28th, 2010

Four Loko Banned…but only at certain universities within the US.  Four Loko is a popular caffeinated alcoholic beverage, and the FDA is investigating after a host of episodes around the country where college students have blacked out from drinking the beverage.

Basically, the drink is 12% alcohol – in line with a glass of wine, a beer, or a wine cooler.  Plus, it’s got the caffeine of a cup of coffee. The caffeine is a stimulant, and hides the effects of alcohol. This makes people prone to drink more, not feel the full effects of the alcohol until the caffeine wears off.

Campuses are banning the drink after several students fell ill from consuming the beverage.  High school students who drink underage are also more likely to choose a beverage like Four Loko, as it has the appearance of a normal energy drink.

Below is video coverage of Four Loko Banned.  In addition, do you think that this is something that the FDA should really look in to or not? Should Four Loko be banned at universities?
