BP Photoshop: Altered Photos Found on Site

July 27th, 2010

The BP Photoshop scandal was yet another embarrassment for the company responsible for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Altered photos were found on their site, and the thing about them is that they weren’t even trying to cover a big problem up.  BP is now accused of photoshopping pictures to make it appear as if they are monitoring the oil spill more than they really are.

One doctored photo showed screens in the background of the spill.  The screens had the images doctored in.  Another photo was presumed to be of a helicopter flying over the oil spill site, when a keen eye noted that the helicopter was really on a landing pad, and the water had been painted in.

The whole issue isn’t the photoshop pictures themselves. The issue centers on BP trying to build trust. It’s hard to trust a company when they are making fake crisis response photos.  The whole scenario makes you wonder if anything that they say or do is legitimate.

BP fessed up to the pictures after the media called them out on it. And BP looked bad to the public…again.

Hopefully the BP oil spill will be capped permanently within the next couple of weeks, and then the spill site can be cleaned up once and for all.
