Oil Spill Pensacola Florida Balls of Tar and Sugar Sand Beaches
June 6th, 2010
Oil Spill Pensacola Florida Balls of Tar and Sugar Sand Beaches. The oil spill is closing in on Pensacola Florida and many people could be seen today picking up small balls of tar from the sugar sand beaches. The beaches in the area have not been closed yet, but health department officials are monitoring the status of the water to ensure it stays safe for the many beach going patrons.
Of course, even if the water is “safe” there are some people who don’t want to swim with the tarballs. We can’t say that we blame them, either. Even if the tarballs are tiny at this time, they showcase a much larger problem that is going on.
Florida is the fourth state to be affected by the spill, which started after the Transocean Deepwater Horizon rig blew up in April. The hardest hit state is Louisiana, but not much of the Gulf of Mexico is safe from the spill at this time.
Many worry about oil from the spill getting into the loop current. Then, the oil would be taken from the Gulf and spewed up and down the eastern Seaboard – potentially all the way to North Carolina.
