National Spelling Bee 2010 Finals – Scripps National Spelling Bee Winner
June 5th, 2010
National Spelling Bee 2010 Finals – Scripps National Spelling Bee Winner. Who won the Scripps national spelling bee? That distinction goes to Anamika Veerami, a 14 year old girl from Ohio. She’s an eighth grader who attends the Incarnate Word Academy.
Veerami has high hopes for her future. She hopes to be come a cardiovascular surgeon one day, after attending Harvard. This is appropriate considering that her winning word was “Stromuhr” which is “a medical device that measures the amount and speed of blood flow through an artery.”
The winner also plays golf, and likes to dance – she’s truly one of the country’s best and brightest young students. Even though she’s exceptional, she’s also in many ways just like any other teen. She says her parents are buying her a cell phone for winning.
What was her prize? $30,000 cash, $2,500 savings bonds, $5,000 scholarship, and $2,700 in reference work. This is a big prize for a spelling bee.
The spelling list included words such as engysseismology, infundibuliform, rhytidome and more like them. They are words that the average person doesn’t know the meaning of, much less can spell. All of the students who participated in the National Spelling Bee should be applauded.
The children who did not win during the final round won prizes ranging from $250 to $12,500.
