2010 Unemployment Extension Also Benefits Physicians Medicare Payments
June 7th, 2010
2010 Unemployment Extension Also Benefits Physicians Medicare Payments. HR4213 is a hodge-podge of things combined into one bill. Not only does the so-called “extenders bill” seek to extend the tiers 1-4 unemployment benefits until November 30, 2010 it also seeks to do a variety of other things. Among them is one particular benefit for physicians.
HR 4213 will prevent a 21% cut in Physicians medicare payments. What does this mean? Ultimately it means that the cost of healthcare will not increase substantially. If the cut went through, doctors and healthcare providers will find other ways to make up for that lost revenue – including charging more.
The bill helps not only physicians but also medicare recipients such as the elderly and disabled.
In addition to both the medicare issue and the issue of unemployment, the Extenders bill will also keep the COBRA insurance subsidies in place. In addition, various tax breaks are written in to the bill to help small businesses and the middle class.
On top of everything else, the bill will be partially funded by taxing hedge fund managers – something that the government has been wanting to do for some time now.
The bill has not been passed; this means that tiers 1-4 plus the people that need a tier 5 are stuck in limbo until the bill is passed by the Senate and signed by the President.
